Welcome to the “The Foreign Mom” Blog by Elisabeth.
I’m Elisabeth and the face behind “The Foreign Mom” Blog. I’m originally from Germany. My husband and I are now living in the US where we are raising our children. I’m a mom to two beautiful girls, Charlotte (3yrs) and Penelope (1 yr). I’ve been a stay/work-at-home mom since my oldest daughter was born. Staying home gives me the change to raise my girls while doing lots of fun projects with them. But it also gives me the opportunity to raise my daughters bilingual, German and English. I want to share more of my story with you, but first…
Why The Foreign Mom Blog?
Every day we spend hours doing fun projects and my daughter’s and I would love to share them with you and your children. Some of these activities are easy to set up activities, while others are bilingual activities with a focus on language development.
I created numerous activities for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. You can find even more of my activities on my Instagram. These activities are easy to set up and mostly mess-free. You won’t need a lot of supplies for my activities because I want to make your life simple. 🙂
Experiences as a stay/work-at-home mom
Also, I want to share my experiences as a stay-at-home mom of two girls with you. I have learned so much over the last 3 years of my life. I believe some of that knowledge can be beneficial to you, especially if you are a new mom or expecting your second child.
Furthermore, I want to share how I have been working from home without going insane. I will tell you how I stay organized and still have fun with my children every day.
Raising my daughter’s bilingual
I will share with you my experiences on raising my children bilingual. Our bilingual journey has been crucial to me and there is so much to know on the subject.
Let me be your support system through Motherhood
I created “The Foreign Mom” Blog to share my experience with you. I believe having a support system is essential for mothers. Knowing that others are going through the same thing in life is helping me every day and I know it’s helping others as well. I believe it will help you as well…
Let’s Continue My Story
After working in a boring office job in Germany, I decided to take on an adventure. I was 23-years-old and ready to take on the world.
So, I got on an airplane with two suitcases… I never forget, when I exited the airport in NYC. WOW! Life was overwhelming for a minute there. But so exciting! I won’t deny that my first years in the US were rough, but I got to love the country right away.
First, I worked as a nanny for a family and started university at the same time. Four years later, I finished school with a BS in Psychology and a minor in Art. I was so proud of myself!!!
During my Psychology studies, I focused on child development and parenting. I always loved working with children and teaching them everything they need to know. After university, I started a Caseworker position working with foreigners. My focus was on families and how to improve their lives. My educational background and experiences have helped me to create my fun and engaging activities for children. I can’t wait to share them with you and your children.
Elisabeth Figert’s Family
Charlotte is a fun, curious, and very loving 3-year-old. She indeed is the perfect first child. And she adores her baby sister.
Penelope is an advantageous and silly 1-year-old. Penelope also adores her big sister and our Chesapeake Bay Retriever.
I never imagined being lucky enough to have two such beautiful souls in my life. And I got another one…
My husband Bill! We have been married for 6 years now. My husband truly is my better half and I can always count on him. Even, to bounce off ideas for this blog.
Not to forget our family dog, Bella (3yrs). Charlotte and Bella grew up together. Charlotte was 6-months-old when we brought her home. They have been best friends ever since. Luckily, they included Penelope into their special bond. We are truly blessed with them.
Now you know every about me and I’m excited to learn more about you. Please leave your feedback, so I can get to know you.
